Edinburgh Castle
"All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware" - Martin Buber

The charming capital of Scotland is the perfect location for a weekend break; most of the top attractions are near the city center so in most of the cases you don't need to rent a car; public transportation is really effective and you can easily discover the city with a daily ticket.

Do you have more time? Why don't explore the beautiful castles outside the center?

Below our bucket list for a top planning..

1. Wandering along the Royal Mile.. the lovely hearth of the city. And if you want to discover the dark side of the city, take part of one of the ghost tour available; tickets can be bought directly along the street

2. Visiting Holyrood Palace, Her Majesty's the Queen official residence when she is in Scotland. The palace is also know to be the home of the ill-fated Mary Queen of Scotland in the 16th century.

3. Climbing on old volcano for a wonderful view on the city: Arthur' seat is the highest hill of Holyrood Park and you can easily get there with a short walk starting from the Royal Mile

4. Discovering the majestic Edinburgh Castle.

5. Tasting the typical Scottish Whisky

6. Having some fun in the Camera Obscura and World of Illusion,

7. Taking a rest inside the awesome St. Giles Cathedral, a real oasis of serenity right in the middle of the buzzing Royal Mile

8. Exploring many nooks and crannies in the Craigmillar Castle; just one mile far from the city center it is an interesting attraction for castle lovers

9. Losing yourself in the lovely gardens of Dirleton Castle. This fortress represents one of the oldest castle architecture surviving in Scotland and it is possible to see also the best preserved pigeon house

10. Driving to the amazing Tantallon Castle (1 hour far from the city). The visit really worth the journey: set high on a cliff edge, from here you can enjoy breathtaking views over the North Sea to the Bass Rock and its large seabird colonies.
